Royal Dutch Shell has announced that its shareholders have voted in favour of the recommended combination between Shell and BG Group.

A total of 83.08% of voters approved the proposed acquisition, which Shell expects to complete on 15 February 2016, subject to BG shareholders approving the offer at its shareholder meeting set to be held on 28 January 2016.

Ben van Beurden, CEO of Shell, said: “I am delighted with the positive shareholder vote and the confidence that shareholders have shown in the strategic logic of the combination of Shell and BG. Our immediate focus is on the successful completion of the transaction and we now await the results of tomorrow’s BG shareholder vote.”
