Built to Perform: Which type of heat exchanger is best for producing LNG?

LNG plants require cryogenic heat exchangers to liquefy natural gas, with the two most common being coil wound heat exchangers (CWHE) and brazed aluminium heat exchangers (BAHX). Although they share many characteristics, including high efficiency, each has its particular strengths.

Air Products has extensive experience with both heat exchanger technologies across its industrial gas plants and LNG equipment projects. This recently published white paper outlines the features of both types of heat exchangers and explains why CWHEs have clear advantages that contribute to their use in the vast majority of LNG baseload facilities.
