Transporting LNG tanks in Florida

Crane Rental Corp. recently transported three LNG tanks in South Florida.

Measuring 134.5 ft long, 12.5 ft wide and 14 ft high, and weighing 166 000 lb, the tanks were transloaded from a larger barge to one measuring less than 50 ft wide in order to travel up the Miami River.

Once offloaded from the barge, each tank was loaded onto 18 lines of THP Goldhofer modular trailers using a 275 t capacity Grove GMK5275 hydraulic all-terrain crane and a 240 t capacity Grove GMK5240 hydraulic all-terrain crane.

Crane Rental transports the LNG tank under a bridge.

The Crane Rental crew transported the tanks more than five miles to their destination. The haul route included crossing railroad tracks, travelling under two bridges, and using police escorts to manage heavy traffic in the Miami area. The job was completed safely in two days.

The tanks will now be used to fuel locomotives with LNG.
