Teekay Offshore has announced the contract signing for two Suezmax-size DP2 shuttle tanker newbuildings, with options to order up to two further vessels.

These vessels will be built based on Teekay Offshore’s new Shuttle Spirit design, which features technologies proven to increase fuel efficiency and reduce emissions. These include LNG propulsion technology.

Once the vessels become operational, Teekay Offshore claims that they will be the most environmentally friendly shuttle tankers ever built. They will be delivered in 2019 and 2020. Once delivered, they will provide shuttle tanker services in the North Sea in support of the company’s long-term relationship with Statoil.
