Bangladesh favours land-based over floating LNG projects

Reuters is reporting that Bangladesh has opted to cancel its plans for a new floating LNG import terminal, preferring land-based facilities instead.
It is understood that adverse weather is the motivating factor behind this decision, as recent conditions have made it difficult to operate the country’s FSRU terminal. As a result, no additional FSRU projects will be commissioned in the near future.
“We will not go for more floating LNG projects at this time. One is already online and another is expected to start in March next year,” Mohammad Quamruzzaman, managing director of the Rupantarita Prakritik Gas Co., told Reuters.
