OSK-ShipTech and GSI in LNG ferry deal
OSK-Ship Tech and Guangzhou Shipyard International (GSI) have signed a contract for the continuation of design works in relation to a new RoPax LNG ferry.
The ferry has been contracted between GSI and Swedish passenger shipping company, Gotlandsbolget. The ferry will service the route between Nynäshamn and Visby, Gotland, and will be one of the most powerful and fastest ferries to be powered by LNG.
The 200 m long vessel will have a deadweight capacity of approximately 4800 t, room for approximately 1650 passengers and 1750 trainer lane meters. Despite the vessel’s large displacement, the design team has ensured a significant reduction on fuel consumption.
“We have experienced excellent cooperation between OSK-ShipTech, the owners, GSI and the test tank Marin, with lots of in-house CFD optimization, tank testing and retesting. Bearing the given constraints of the project in mind, I think we have pinched every possible saving out of the hull lines,” commented Kristian Carøe Lind, OSK-ShipTech’s Head of Department – Aarhus.
OSK-ShipTech will lead the basic and detailed design process, primarily on exterior/interior designs, safety and environmental arrangements, as well as general project coordination.
