Electrical substation begins journey to Wheatstone LNG
The large electrical substation for Chevron’s Wheatstone LNG project near Onslow, in Western Australia’s Pilbara region, has been dispatched.
According to a statement on the Freemantle Ports website, the large Pacific Battler tug has commenced its tow of the barge HDB 401 to the Wheatstone project. A smaller Svitzer tug ‘shepherded’ the barge to keep it clear of the wharves as it left Freemantle.
The Pacific Battler will tow the barge over a distance of more than 1000 sea miles to the Pilbara region. The tug is a 2100 t ocean-going vessel, which measures 60 m in length, with 12 000 t brake horsepower, a bollard pull of 150 t and a winch pull of 300 t.
The Wheatstone LNG project, one of Australia’s most significant resource developments, is now 49% complete.
