Amendment requires LNG approval for WTO countries
US Senator John Barrasso has announced that he will introduce an amendment to the Energy Savings and Industrial Competitiveness Act of 2014. This amendment will require the Department of Energy to approve LNG exports to all World Trade Organization member countries, including Ukraine.
Barrasso commented: “I have said repeatedly that I will take every opportunity to get a vote on legislation that will make it easier for the United States to export LNG to other countries. My amendment will create jobs across America, strengthen America’s foreign policy hand and help our allies who are held hostage to Russian energy. Bipartisan support for exporting LNG continues to grow stronger each day and it’s time for Washington act on this important issue now. The pending energy bill is the perfect opportunity to finally get this done.”
Background
Senator Barrasso’s amendment will apply to pending and future applications to export LNG.
