Prince Rupert Gas Transmission Ltd (PRGT) has reached a project agreement with the Gitanyow First Nation of northern British Columbia (B.C.), Canada. The deal confirms the Gitanyow First Nation’s support for the PRGT pipeline project, while providing the First Nation with benefits related to the project.
Pipeline project agreements are part of a comprehensive approach to working with First Nations on LNG opportunities, including developing skills training and involving First Nations in developing business opportunities.
PRGT is proposing to design, build, own and operate a 900 km natural gas pipeline to deliver natural gas from a point near Hudson's Hope to the proposed Pacific NorthWest LNG facility at Lelu Island, off the coast of Port Edward, near Prince Rupert.
Dean Patry, President of PRGT, said: "We are very pleased to have concluded this project agreement with Gitanyow First Nation. This agreement is an important milestone for us, and reflects our commitment to engage with First Nations in a meaningful way. We strongly believe that ongoing collaboration is the only way to build and keep a positive relationship as we move this project forward."
