Unfortunately, most CM solutions are proprietary stand-alone systems where IT infrastructure and even process data storage is often duplicated and with limited access. The diagnostic portion of such a system provides important actionable information for machine healthcare, but again with limited access, limited functionality, and is sometimes not very transparent.
A data historian, such as the OSIsoft® PI System®, provides an overview of all production assets from both an operational and maintenance perspective, and is being implemented in many LNG plants. It is no longer necessary to use proprietary servers for storing CM data. CM system suppliers and other third-party service providers can still share their expertise on the PI System®, but the analytic calculations can be done directly in PI, making it more accessible and transparent.
This applies to measurement techniques requiring calculations, such as maintenance KPIs, performance monitoring, and even to automatic decision support of assets. Moreover, monitoring data and analytics can be correlated with data from other systems connected to the data historian such as CMMS and EAM.
