REV LNG and Siem Car Carriers have announced a partnership to supply LNG to Siem's ships in the US Northeast, starting at the Port of Davisville in North Kingstown, Rhode Island. REV made the first LNG delivery in October 2026 to the Siem Aristotle, an LNG-powered car carrier on Siem's Atlantic service. To the best of both companies' knowledge, it was the first LNG bunkering in Rhode Island and the first LNG fuelling of a car carrier in the US Northeast.
Siem put the first deep-sea car carriers powered by LNG, the Siem Aristotle and the Siem Confucius, into service in 2020 as part of a long-standing commitment to reducing emissions. Siem chose LNG because it nearly eliminates sulfur oxides and particulate matter and lowers greenhouse-gas emissions compared to conventional marine fuel oil. REV's work at Davisville gives Siem a dedicated, reliable location to receive LNG.
“We built the first deep-sea car carriers to run on LNG because it was the responsible choice for our fleet and the environment, and we're proud of that,” said Jeffrey Campbell, President, Siem Car Carriers. “What we needed was reliable fuel. We are always looking for partners who share our values: dependable supply, lower emissions, and safety in everything we do. We found that in REV. This partnership gives our ships the fuel they need on this side of the Atlantic, and it gives our team another supplier that we can build with for years to come.”
REV uses its vertically integrated model to source and transport the LNG and to manage all pier-side logistics. Other LNG-fuelled vessels calling Davisville can now arrange fuel through REV as well.
“This is a continuation of REV's leadership in developing LNG bunkering capability at the locations our customers need,” added Jake Digel, CEO, REV LNG. “Since our first operation in Hamilton, Ontario, in 2020, we have worked to provide safe, reliable LNG bunkering hand in hand with port operators, the U.S. Coast Guard, first responders, and the community. I'm proud that we are bringing LNG fuelling to the Northeast at Davisville alongside Siem, a partner that does things right.”
To date, REV has completed more than 90 truck-to-ship LNG deliveries. At Davisville, approvals and planning took approximately 12 months, working in close alignment with the U.S. Coast Guard, the Rhode Island State Fire Marshal, and Port of Davisville officials. For each operation, REV is responsible for the entire value chain: it identifies and develops each bunkering location, secures the necessary permits and regulatory approvals, sources and transports the LNG, and manages every interface with the vessel.
“Every LNG transfer is a joint operation between two crews, and it only works when both hold the same standard,” concluded Philip Bacon, Vice President of Operations, Siem Shipping. “REV's team prepared with ours for months. They know the work, and they hold safety to the standard we hold ourselves. That is what we need from our fuel partners.”
