Bestobell awarded Korean contract

LNG Industry,

Bestobell Marine has been awarded a major contract by DSME shipyard in Korea, reflecting the company’s success in securing business for its cryogenic globe and check valves and unique FLIV valve.

Bestobell secured an order for fives shipsets of valves that will be fitted on the 173K LNG (liquefied natural gas) carrier currently under construction for Teekay LNG, and due for delivery from the first half of 2016.

The newbuildings will be constructed with M-type, Electronically Controlled, Gas Injection (MEGI) twin engines, which are expected to be significantly more fuel-efficient and have lower emission levels than other engines currently being used in LNG shipping. This is the first time a LNG carrier will be fitted with this type of engines.

The award of the contract reflects the close relationship between Bestobell Marine and DSME. Bestobell has supplied valves to DSME for almost 50 LNG carriers that have been constructed at the shipyard in Korea. Bestobell’s unique FLIV valve has been particularly popular, being used to isolate the cargo tanks from the secondary float measurement system. Its ease of installation and small footprint has made it the valve of choice for DSME.

Bestobell Marine is planning to expand over the next year in response to the increasing demand for its valves from DSME and other Korean yards.
