Request to export Alaskan LNG

LNG Industry,

The US Department of Energy (DOE) has received a request from a ConocoPhillips subsidiary to export Alaskan liquefied natural gas (LNG) to non-Free Trade Agreement (FTA) countries.

The DOE notified the Federal Register of the request. The register said subsidiary ConocoPhillips Alaska Natural Gas Corp. requested to ship up to 40 million ft3 of LNG from a terminal in Alaska for a two-year period.

The request calls for delivery of LNG "to any country with which the United States does not have a free trade agreement requiring national treatment for trade in natural gas and with which trade is not prohibited by US law or policy."

The US government needs to determine if LNG exports to non-FTA countries are in the public interest before consenting to export licenses. US Energy Secretary, Ernest Moniz, expressed support for LNG exports when he took office in May.

The request is subject to a public comment period, which ends 28th February.
