The vessel – Rudolf Samoylovich – is the company’s second of six 172 000 m3 ARC7 LNG carrier newbuildings constructed for the project. It is named after a Russian polar explorer who took part in the geological expedition to Spitsbergen in 1912, the Zeppelin expedition in 1931, and a number of other expeditions on icebreakers in the 1930s.
Construction of the first vessel – Eduard Toll – commenced earlier in 2016, with steel cutting completed in April.
The steel cutting ceremony for Rudolf Samoylovich took place at the Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME) shipyard in South Korea. Gi-Bong Jeong, Hull Superintendent, pushed the button to activate the cutting of the first plate of the vessel.
