Four of these tugs – which will be of the escort/mooring ASD 3212 design with a bollard pull of 80 t – will operate at the new Corpus Christi LNG export terminal in Texas, US.
The remaining nine tugs will be used for ship escort-response duties out of Valdez, Prince William Sound, Alaska, US, from July 2018. Specifically, four ASD 3212 tugs with a bollard pull of 70 t each will be provided, as well as five ASD 4517 tugs with a bollard pull of 150+ t each. The latter design was developed jointly by Damen and ECO, and is designed especially for the often-challenging weather conditions in the Prince William Sound.
Gary Chouest, the President/CEO of ECO, said: “Chouest was pleased to have this opportunity to take Damen’s proven hull design and helped create a new, state-of-the-art escort design representing the most powerful ASD tug ever designed or built.”
