General Dynamics NASSCO – a wholly-owned subsidiary of General Dynamics – has announced that it has successfully delivered the world’s second LNG-fuelled containership. The delivery of the Perla Del Caribe was two months ahead of schedule.
The new vessel will join its sister ship, the Isla Bella, which was also constructed by General Dynamics NASSCO for TOTE Maritime under a two-ship contract signed with TOTE in December 2012. Both of the vessels are 764 ft long Marlin Class containerships, and are the world’s largest LNG-fuelled cargo ships.
Kevin Graney, the Vice President and General Manager of General Dynamics NASSCO, said: “The Perla Del Caribe and the Isla Bella exemplify world-leading, innovative technologies being used to build ocean-going ships that are cost-effective, friendly to the environment and offer a competitive edge.
