Shandong LNG project nears completion

LNG Industry,

In a statement last week, Sinopec said that its Shandong LNG project, located in Eastern Chinese province of Shandong, is near completion. The company revealed that the project was 84% complete; 95% of the piers were done, while 88% of three storage tanks for phase one and 70% of the terminal station were complete.

A spokesperson for Sinopec said: “The Shandong LNG project, officially launched in June 2011, is a major project in Qingdao. Shandong invested and built to import overseas resources in line with Sinopec Group’s Grand Strategy of Natural Gas Development". Sinopec also said that the LNG terminal would supply the Qingdao region (and even Shandong itself) with natural gas.

After completion of phase one, the project will have an import capacity of 3 million tpa. Imports will arrive from Papua New Guinea following a sales and purchase agreement (SPA) between Sinopec and ExxonMobil in 2009.
