Senex has announced that civil works have commenced at its Roma North natural gas development in the Surat Basin following the award of the major construction contract.

Senex claims that it has awarded the contract to construct the Roma North gas processing facility and associated pipeline to Wasco (Australia) Pty Ltd following a competitive tender.

Wasco has been active in the Roma area since Senex first selected the company to carry out natural gas construction works in 2016.

Ian Davies, the Managing Director and CEO of Senex, said: “This contract and early works are further milestones in the development of our gas business in the Surat Basin.

“We are also pleased that the contract has been awarded to a company with established operations in Roma, where Senex will be operating and supporting the community for decades to come.”

According to the statement, it is expected that the contract will create approximately 50 jobs directly in construction and support further roles at local sub-contractors and Wasco’s continuing operations in Roma.

Commissioning of the facility is targeted for 2Q19.

Mel Whyte, the President of Wasco (Australia), said: “Senex first brought our company to Roma two years ago and this is our biggest contract in the area to date. The delivery of these works will further develop our presence in regional Queensland.”

In the statement, Senex claims that it is expecting to create approximately 150 jobs and invest over US$200 million in the construction of its foundation gas developments Roma North and Project Atlas – a dedicated domestic gas tenure located approximately 20 km south-west of Wandoan.

These developments include the construction of a total of 110 wells initially, as well as two gas processing plants and associated pipelines and facilities over a period of approximately two years commencing in late 1Q19.
