MAN Cryo has announced that it will provide the LNG fuel-gas supply system for a Norwegian live-fish carrier ordered by Norwegian aquaculture company, Nordlaks.

According to the statement, the carrier will be the sister vessel of an identical vessel that was ordered in summer last year – again for Nordlaks – for which MAN Cryo also won the order to provide the fuel-supply system. MAN Cryo claims that the system forms part of an innovative, hybrid gas-battery propulsion solution – a first for the segment.

The vessels were designed by NSK in Norway, and will be built at Tersan Shipyard in Turkey.

Louise Andersson, Head of MAN Cryo, said: “These orders mark our entry into a new marine segment with its own unique demands. Nordlaks’ interest in exploiting sustainable technology fits seamlessly with our ambition to become a leading supplier within sectors where there is a growing demand for LNG-fuelled solutions. We are very pleased with this order from Tersan and look forward to continuing our cooperation with such a valued customer.”

MAN Cryo’s scope of supply for each vessel covers the following:

  • Two vertical vacuum insulated 146 m3 LNG tanks, each with two redundant ‘tank connecting spaces’.
  • Two BS100-GR bunker stations.
  • Two HEU 100 glycol-heat exchanger units.

One complete, the vessels will be 84.25 m long, and will have a breadth of 19.0 m. They will be capable of transporting over 600 t of live fish, particularly salmon and trout. The carriers are designed for operation at aquaculture facilities in more exposed waters and delivery of the latest vessel is expected during 2021.
