According to Reuters, Pakistan has launched a tender for a second LNG import terminal, which will be based at Port Qasim, Karachi. Through this terminal, the government aims to alleviate the current energy crisis before the general election in 2018.

The project will include a floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU), as well a new pipeline and jetty.

Reuters claims that an unnamed government official stated that the tender was launched in early January 2016, with a request for proposal (RFP) by 24 January 2016.

Reuters also reports that Pakistan is finalising a deal with Qatar to import larger volumes of LNG to meet domestic demand.
