According to Reuters, Ivory Coast has signed a partnership pact to create a Total-led consortium to construct an LNG import terminal.
The project will consist of a floating storage regasification unit (FSRU), which will have an initial capacity of 100 million ft3, eventually increasing to up to 500 million ft3. The energy ministry reportedly estimated that the project would cost US$200 million.
While Total would operate the project, Reuters reports that Royal Dutch Shell, Endeavor Energy, Petroci, CI-Energies, SOCAR and Golar LNG will also be members of the consortium.
Reportedly, Total has claimed that discussions are still at a preliminary stage. Nonetheless, Reuters claims that Laurent Vivier, head of Total’s gas division, said: “We have the intention to bring this project to fruition. You have set ambitious targets.”
The project could begin receiving gas shipments by mid-2018.
