Danser celebrates recommissioning of LNG powered barge

LNG Industry,

Danser recently celebrated the official recommissioning of the Eiger-Nordwand barge, following the completion of its conversion to LNG propulsion.

The engines on the barge were replaced by dual-fuel LNG Wärtsilä engines, at Koedood Diesel Service in Hendrik-Ido-Ambacht. The conversion to LNG gives the Eiger-Nordwand great advantages in emissions reduction and savings in fuel costs compared to diesel.

The official program began with speeches from Siebe Riedstra, Secretary-General of the Ministry of Infrastructure and the Environment and Sophie Cabanis, policy officer at DG Move from the European Commission. A panel discussion was also held under the leadership of Paul van Liempt, during which the benefits of LNG as fuel, the development of LNG infrastructure and Danser Group’s long-term vision on sustainability of the inland container transport per barge were discussed.
