According to the latest Reuters report, the LNG tanker Maran Gas Vergina has delivered an LNG cargo to China from the US.
This cargo is reportedly the first to make the journey from the US to China since March 2019. This has been due to the long-standing trade war that has existed between the two countries, during which China raised tariffs on US LNG to 25%.
The Maran Gas Vergina, loaded at the Freeport LNG facility in Texas, arrived in Tanjin on 20 April, where China National Offshore Oil Corp (CNOOC) and Sinopec both operate LNG terminals.
According to Reuters sources, three more US LNG cargoes are due to be delivered to China before the end of April. Furthermore, two more are reportedly set to be discharged in May. The US LNG terminals supplying these cargoes include Cheniere’s Corpus Christi and Sabine Pass plants, and Sempra LNG’s Cameron plant.
