Flogas Britain has announced that it has appointed David Taylor as Head of Corporate Affairs & Innovation.

In his new role, Taylor will focus his efforts on policy development, and play an important part in helping shape the UK’s future energy landscape.

According to the statement, the new role was created in line with Flogas’ ambitious growth plans, and covers all areas of the business – from traditional off-grid and cylinder LPG supply, through to mains gas and electricity, LNG for high-volume use and propane enrichment for biomethane. Taylor’s appointment follows the news that Flogas is entering the commercial electricity market under its Flogas Energy brand.

Lee Gannon, Managing Director at Flogas Britain, said: “Flogas is well known as a market-leading LPG provider, but this is only part of our offering. As a supplier of gas and electricity, our remit is now much wider. Now that we’ve entered the utilities market, we’re in the right position to join high-level discussions around energy policy, and David’s absolutely the right person to lead us on this. It’s vital that we’re involved in the political framework and working closely with BEIS (the Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy). Only then can we understand what’s next for UK energy supply and continue to develop and evolve our offering – both on and off the grid.”

Taylor added: “My vision for the role is to ensure Flogas is right at the forefront of policy discussions: representing customer interests, helping to shape developments, and of course making sure we’re responding to changing market conditions. From an innovation perspective, being active at this level will also help provide us with the vital insight we need to stay at the cutting edge of our industry. The energy market is constantly evolving, and as a company we need to be able to move with it.”

Previously, Taylor served as Head of Consumer Sales, and has been with the company for five years. As Head of Corporate Affairs & Innovation, he will attend industry meetings with key ministers, coordinate company responses to government calls for evidence, take part in consultations, and play an active role in wider lobbying circles. This includes working with UKLPG, the Renewable Energy Association (REA) and Energy UK. In addition to this, he will also sit on the Innovation Group, which represents Flogas and all other brands in parent company DCC Companies’ portfolio, as part of his work to develop new Flogas products and services.

In the immediate term, Flogas claims that Taylor will be focused on entering the debate about the UK’s Clean Growth and Clean Air Strategies.

He explains: “The Clean Growth Strategy is all about supporting the roll-out of lower-carbon processes, systems and technologies nationwide. At Flogas, we see LPG playing a significant role in decarbonising and improving air quality in off-grid areas. As the lowest carbon and cleanest conventional fossil fuel available, LPG is the ideal replacement for oil or solid fuel in applications across the UK.”
