CIMC Enric powers maiden voyage of TEMAS vessel

Digul Mas, a vessel operated by TEMAS Group, completed its commercial maiden voyage and entered service on the route connection Surabaya, Kendari, and Gorontalo in Indonesia. The ship features an LNG fuel tank swap power system. CIMC Enric, as the core supporting partner for the project, supplied specialised marine LNG fuel tank containers and undertook the construction of TEMAS Group’s 5 million ft3/d skid-mounted liquefaction plant. Together, they have built an integrated industrial chain covering liquefaction production – tank storage and transport – marine fuel application, delivering an actionable and replicable green energy solution for Indonesia’s archipelagic shipping market.

Digul Mas is the first vessel in TEMAS Group’s planned fleet of eight green LNG-powered container ships. With a capacity of 488 TEU for standard dry container cargo, the vessel is primarily tasked with inter-island container logistics in Indonesia. It adopts electric propulsion combined with an LNG single-fuel power system and official entered commercial operation in August 2026, focusing on container transport among the eastern islands. The remaining seven sister green vessels are expected to be fully commissioned by 2027.

Unlike the fixed large fuel tanks typical of conventional LNG-powered vessels, Digul Mas employs a replaceable LNG fuel tank container gas supply system. The LNG fuel tank containers arranged on the deck serve exclusively as mobile energy carriers for propulsion. When the fuel in a tank is depleted, standard container handling equipment at ports can quickly swap empty tanks with full ones, eliminating the need for dedicated LNG bunkering terminals. This approach significantly lowers the barrier to clean energy shipping adoption and precisely addresses the challenges of Indonesia’s dispersed islands and scarce LNG bunkering infrastructure. China Classification Society conducted a specialised risk assessment for the tank-on-deck application, with CIMC Enric involved in technical validation and review to ensure full compliance and operational safety of this novel power model.

On the upstream energy supply side, the 5 million ft3/d skid-mounted LNG liquefaction plant built by CIMC Enric’s subsidiary, Zhangjiagang CIMC Sanctum, was put into operation in Surabaya, Indonesia, in May 2026. The plant integrates natural gas pretreatment, liquefaction, storage, truck loading, and full utility systems. The produced LNG can be directly filled in CIMC Enric’s self-developed marine LNG fuel tank containers, ensuring a stable supply for Digul Mas and the entire TEMAS clean energy fleet. This closes the complete loop of local liquefaction – tank filling – multimodal transhipment – vessel tank swapping.

Indonesia, with its myriad islands and robust inter-island shipping demand, faces insufficiency natural gas pipeline coverage and high costs for building large LNG bunkering terminals, making traditional clean energy shipping models difficult to popularise. CIMC Enric’s skid-mounted liquefaction plant and standardised LNG fuel tank containers virtual pipeline solution breaks the conventional constraints of fixed supply and bunkering. Each link operates independently with flexible adaptation, enabling clean energy replenishment without large scale terminal renovations – highly suited to the archipelagic shipping characteristics of Indonesia and the broader Southeast Asia region. This project stands as a benchmark practice of CIMC Enric’s virtual pipeline integrated solution in overseas shipping, offering a new pathway and proven model for the low-carbon transformation of Southeast Asia’s maritime industry.
