ENAP considers use of LNG in Chile

LNG Industry,

ENAP's CEO, Marcelo Tokman, participated as a main speaker for the Round Table on Energy in Chile, an event organised by the Institute of the Americas.

The event consisted of several panels, in which discussions encouraged competition in the power generation market, and the use of both LNG and coal in Chile’s energy mix.

Energy agenda

During the panel discussion, Tokman referred to ENAP's role and its part in the Energy Agenda launched by President Bachelet in May. He recalled "the support provided by ENAP during the perfect storm in 2008, as a result of drought and gas shortages from Argentina, occasion in which the company learned many lessons and became stronger.”

In terms of future challenges, the CEO explained the role ENAP will have on the Energy Agenda. Tokman explained that in order to fulfill this role, the company will need capital to the amount of US$ 400 million, and plans to modernize its corporate governance.

LNG in power

He also stressed the importance of having a secure energy supply, a larger share of LNG in power generation, and that ENAP will continue improving security in all its operations.
