Over 200 business people from the Western Downs area of Queensland have learnt about opportunities to work with Queensland Gas Company (QGC).
Tradesmen, suppliers and other businesses heard from QGC and other major contractors at the natural gas company’s annual contractor and local business forum in Chinchilla. The Toowoomba and Surat Basin Enterprise supported the event.
Speakers included representatives from QGC's major contractors in the region, including Thiess, Ostwald Brothers, Schlumberger, Murphy Pipe and Civil, Veolia and Transfield. Over the past four years, the company has held over 25 similar events for local businesses across the Queensland Curtis liquefied natural gas (LNG) project area.
Long-term contracts
Peter Thompson, VP Production Operations at QGC, said the company would award further contracts to support long-term operations and maintenance over the following year.
"QGC is delivering significant benefits to local communities, with more than AU$ 680 million already spent in the Western Downs," Thompson told the forum.
"Our business is moving from construction to operations and we have started awarding long-term contracts to maintain and operate our gas and water processing facilities.
"Forums like these are a great opportunity for local firms to meet face to face with QGC and contractors who will be working in the Surat Basin and require support and for decades to come."
Since 2010, over 115 300 Australian businesses have registered their interest in working with QGC.
