The Polish President Bronislaw Komorowski met with the Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani earlier this week to discuss gas issues and economic cooperation.
"We managed [during the talk with the emir] to confirm the special climate in Polish-Qatari relations," President Komorowski told reporters after the talks. He expressed satisfaction with the talks, describing them as “very, very promising”.
"Qatar is an important country for Poland, a country of great economic hopes looking for a possibility to diversify its political partners in Europe and Poland is an attractive [country] for them," he added.
The talks included a discussion about a contract for the delivery of gas from Qatar to Poland beginning in 2014. The president also stressed that Poland has high hopes for the construction of a liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal. The facility can distribute large amounts of gas not only in Poland but also throughout Central and Eastern Europe. "This is a strategic plan, it is worth thinking over with the Qataris where one may locate common and good business, also for the benefit of third countries […] I am also thinking about Ukraine," said Komorowski.
