PNG LNG expansion drilling fails to hit gas

LNG Industry,

Oil Search and Santos, operators of the Papua New Guinea LNG project, have failed to find a gas reservoir in exploration drilling at the Hides field.

The Hides F1 (Hides Deep) well reportedly reached a total depth of 4633 m. The exploration well was a possible option for supplying an expansion of the PNG LNG project. The exploration component of the well will now be abandoned and the development section completed as a gas producer for the project.

Oil Search confirmed that substantial sand intervals were encountered in the exploration target, but formation evaluation information confirms that the sands are water-bearing.
