The House of Representatives has approved a bill to boost help speed up the Department of Energy’s approval of US LNG exports.

H.R. 6, the Domestic Prosperity and Global Freedom Act, was approved by a bipartisan vote of 266 to 150.

Rep. Cory Gardner, author of H.R 6, said: “I’m glad to see H.R. 6 pass with such overwhelming bipartisan support […] This legislation will provide our allies with access to a much needed resource that is abundant in the United States, and it will create tens of thousands of jobs for hardworking Americans here at home. By passing this legislation, we are sending a clear signal to the world that the United States is serious about becoming a key player in the global energy market. I now urge the Senate to act quickly on this important legislation that can be both a foreign policy and economic policy success story for a nation that could use a lot more of both.”

House Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Fred Upton (R-MI) said: “With today’s vote, the House sent a strong signal to Russia and the world that the US is serious about entering the global gas market. The Senate should now follow our bipartisan lead, stand up for jobs and our allies, and quickly send this bill to the president’s desk. The Domestic Prosperity and Global Freedom Act will allow us to take full advantage of America’s abundant natural gas supplies to boost our economy and increase global energy security, and I thank Rep. Gardner for his leadership on this important bill.”
