DOE grants Downeast LNG FTA export authorisation

The US Department of Energy (DOE) has granted Downeast LNG Inc. long-term, multi-contact authorisation to export LNG to countries with a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with the US.

Downeast LNG filed the application with the DOE to export approximately 168 billion ft3/yr of LNG for a 20 year term.

Downeast LNG anticipates exporting up to a total of 3.3 million tpy from its LNG export project, located in Robbinston, Maine, US. The LNG project is being developed by Downeast LNG along with Downeast Liquefaction LLC and Downeast Pipeline LLC.

The LNG terminal site is expected to occupy approximately 80 acres, and will consist of one liquefaction train. The LNG transfer lines will transport the LNG to a 160 000 m3 full containment type tank. The company also expects to construct a 3862 ft long pier, equipped with mooring systems and accessories for the berthing and unloading of LNG vessels, as well as a 29.8 m long gas sendout pipelines extending from the LNG project to the existing Maritimes and Northeast pipeline system at the Baileyville Compressor Station.
