Tanzanian government plans export facility at Lindi
The government of Tanzania is planning to build a liquefied natural gas (LNG) export facility in Lindi. According to the Ministry of Energy and Minerals, the plant, will be modeled on export terminals in Qatar and will be constructed by 2020.
The cost of the project has not been discussed, although a multitude of companies have submitted proposals for review expressing an interest in the Lindi area. It is estimated that Tanzania holds 40 trillion ft3 of natural gas, which could quintuple over the next five years.
Currently BG Group, Exxon Mobil and Statoil are all stationed in Tanzania in a bid to tap its energy reserves.
At present Tanzania has 26 production-sharing agreements with several overseas companies. Tanzania published the 'Natural Gas Policy of Tanzania 2013' in October, a document which listed governmental objectives for gas processing, liquefaction, storage and circulation.
