Owens Corning Technical Services Engineer, Alec Cusick, will discuss safety considerations and priorities during cryogenic liquid spills – including vaporisation of liquid hydrocarbons, radiant heat during fires, and thermal shock to concrete and steel.
Alec will provide information on two FOAMGLAS® cellular glass insulation systems designed for this scenario – the FOAMGLAS® PFS™ Gen. 2 pool fire suppression system and FOAMGLAS® Cryo Spill™ System.
The FOAMGLAS® Cryo Spill™ System lines the base and walls of containment pits to provide thermal shock protection for steel and concrete, as well as reduce vaporisation of liquid hydrocarbons.
The FOAMGLAS® PFS™ System features highly-buoyant modules that rise to the top of LNG should a spill occur in a containment pit. The system delivers reduction of vaporisation and should a fire ignite, reduces radiant heat and flame height.
