General Dynamics NASSCO has announced that it has successfully delivered the Garden State to American Petroleum Tankers (APT). The ECO Class vessel is the latest instalment of a five-vessel contract between the two companies. All of these ships are 610 ft long, 50 000 DWT, have a 330 000 barrel cargo capacity, and are LNG conversion-ready.
The ECO Class tankers are designed by DSEC, which is a subsidiary of Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME). They feature improved fuel efficiency through the use of a number of features, including an optimised hull form and a G-series MAN-ME slow-speed main engine.
The Vice President and General Manager for General Dynamics NASSCO, Kevin Graney, said: “In the past year, NASSCO shipbuilders have delivered seven ships – or the equivalent to 100 000 t worth of steel.
“Among the seven vessels delivered, three have been lead ships: the world’s first containership powered by LNG, the US Navy’s first Expeditionary Sea Base and the nation’s most fuel efficient product tanker. We are proud of the diverse design and build portfolio we have delivered during the course of this year.”
