LNG-powered rigs deployed in US
Prometheus Energy Group, Inc., a supplier of LNG to remote industrial sectors, and Ensign United States Drilling, Inc., have deployed three LNG-powered Automated Drilling Rigs (ADR®), which will operate in the DJ Basin of Colorado, in what Prometheus said was a ‘multi-year agreement’.
The companies are already collaborating on 12 dedicated natural gas fuelled rigs throughout the US, including rigs in Marcellus, mid-Continent and the Niobrara basins.
State-of-the-art technology in the new rigs, which will use clean-burning LNG for drilling, will enable customers to reduce carbon emissions and the cost of fuel.
Jim Aivalis, CEO of Prometheus Energy said: “Prometheus Energy is pleased to deliver this economically attractive and environmentally beneficial solution in partnership with an innovative market leader such as Ensign.
“Our relationship, initiated in 2010 while leading the deployment of the first US-based LNG fuelled drilling rig, has only strengthened over the past four years, allowing the parties to deliver an optimised turnkey solution to our mutual end customers. We look forward to rapidly growing this already robust relationship.”
“Prometheus Energy and Ensign are working together in order to more effectively control fuel costs while realising the benefits of a cleaner environmental footprint,” said Ensign’s Jim McCathron.
