PGNiG commences gas supply to Ukraine

According to Reuters, PGNiG – Poland’s state-run gas company – has started supplying gas to Ukrainian consumers. This follows an agreement that was reached with Eru Trading – a private, Ukrainian gas trader. Reuters confirms that PGNiG has not disclosed the volume of gas to be supplied, or the terms of the agreement. Nonetheless, Reuters does claim that Ukrainian industry consumes approximately 11 billion m3/yr of gas.
Reportedly, both nations are planning to increase the volume of gas that can be transferred via the connection that links their gas systems. Currently, the connection can transfer 1.5 billion m3. Both countries are aiming to increase this to 5 – 8 billion m3. At present, both nations rely on Russian gas supply.
Reuters claims that connecting both of these gas systems comes as part of a larger project, which consists of connecting the LNG terminal on Poland’s Baltic Sea to both central and eastern European countries (North-South gas corridor).
