Two wholly owned subsidiaries of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd (MHI) will begin shipbuilding operations on 1 October 2015 at the Nagasaki Shipyard & Machinery Works. MHI aims to use these two subsidiaries in order to encourage competition and specialisation.
MHI Shipbuilding Co. Ltd will work on the construction of both LNG and LPG carriers. It will ensure efficiency by chain management reforms and a streamlined process, in which there will be a constant supply of the same vessel type.
Meanwhile, MHI Hull Production Co. Ltd will be responsible for the manufacture of the hull blocks for these vessels. MHI Hull Production will also ensure efficiency through production streamlining and the continuous production of identical hulls. The company will increase production by selling its hull blocks to other shipyards.
