Dragon class liquid gas carrier delivered
The first ‘Dragon’ class liquid gas transport vessel, featuring Wärtsilä integrated systems and engines, has been delivered.
The vessel is the first in a series of 27 500 m3 ‘Dragon’ vessels, ordered by Evergas, and was delivered from the Sinopacific Offshore & Engineering (SOE) shipyard in China.
LNG fuel system
The vessel features a comprehensive Wärtsilä solutions package, including two 50DF dual-fuel engines, propulsion equipment including the gearbox, two 20DF auxiliary generating sets, an LNG fuel system and a cargo handling system. The order with Wärtsilä was placed in 2013.
The 'Dragon' class ships are to be chartered by INEOS Europe for the transportation of ethane to Europe from the Mariner East project in the US. The carriers are also able to transport a wide range of petrochemical gases and LPG.
New era
Commenting on the achievement, Steffen Jacobsen, CEO of Evergas, said: "The delivery of the first in this series of the Dragon class vessels marks the beginning of a new era in the transportation of liquefied gases. The highly advanced technological solutions that Wärtsilä provides makes these ships the most modern and environmentally sustainable gas carriers ever built.”
The Dragon class vessels are 180 m long and 26.6 m wide, with a draft of approximately 9 m. They are the largest ethane carriers of their class in the world.
