MOL practices drill for emergency response situations

Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) has announced that it has carried out a tabletop drill with the 3rd Regional Coast Guard Headquarters, based on a scenario where an LNG carrier collided with a vessel in Tokyo Bay, Japan, causing the vessel to have severe engine problems and be stranded without the ability to steer.
The aim of the drill was to test and strengthen the company’s response to emergency situations.
In the drill scenario, the LNG Pioneer crashed into a containership whilst heading northwards from Tateyam, Chiba Prefecture. The steering and engine then began to fail, leaving the ship stranded. Firstly, a report went to the 3rd Regional Coast guard Headquarters. Following this, MOL organised an Emergency Control Headquarters within the company and began to respond with measures and procedures. These included: the gathering of information; precise communications amongst all concerned parties; directions to the vessel, and a media response drill.
