Cadwalader, Wickerham & Taft LLP has announced that lawyers Brett A. Synder and Mark R. Haskell have joined its Energy and Commodities Practice in Washington, D.C., US. Haskell has almost 30 years of experience in the energy sector, and is a leading Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) practitioner. Upon his new position, Haskell said: “Cadwalader offers a wonderful platform to further develop and fortify my practice […] I am excited to join such a robust and highly regarded team that is guiding clients on the challenges facing the energy sector. I look forward to growing the firm's market-leading FERC enforcement defence and regulatory practice and using my years of experience to serve our clients.”

Pat Quinn, Managing Partner of Cadwalader, said: “We are thrilled to welcome a lawyer of Mark's stature and reputation to Cadwalader […] his addition underscores the firm's commitment to further build a preeminent energy practice to meet the growing needs of our clients across a range of markets.”

Synder, meanwhile, offers advice and counselling to major energy players on federal regulations on the oil and gas sector, including LNG. He also counsels on negotiations on commercial energy contracts and on infrastructure projects, such as LNG terminals.

The head of Cadwalader’s Energy and Commodities Group, Paul Pantano, Jr., said: “Mark's and Brett's FERC enforcement, defence, compliance and regulatory experience will enhance the services that we provide to our clients and reinforce our profile in the energy industry […] Their skills complement our existing strengths in energy enforcement, defence and regulation. We are very excited to have attorneys of this calibre join our team.”

These are the latest in a string of new appointments. In early October 2015, Tania Perez joined Cadwalader’s Energy and Commodities Practice in Houston, Texas, US. Perez specialises in developing energy infrastructure, as well as FERC regulation on energy infrastructure.
