Proposed increase for LNG facility user fees

LNG Industry,

The US Department of Transportation’s Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) has announced a proposed increase to the user fee rates that it charges operators of LNG facilities. The LNG user fee rates will increase to 5% of the total gas program costs.

According to PHMSA's Federal Register notice, the fee increases for five types of LNG facilities (based on storage capacity ranges) are needed to help cover shortfalls in federal gas pipeline safety funding.

To reduce the financial impact on LNG operators, PHMSA will implement this increase incrementally over a three-year period.

PHMSA is accepting written comments on the proposal until 2 September at the E-Gov website. Comments should reference Docket No. PHMSA-2014-0051.
