Squamish Nation approves environmental assessment agreement for pipeline

LNG Industry,

Woodfibre LNG has announced that Squamish Nation Chiefs and Council have approved the environmental assessment agreement for the proposed Eagle Mountain – Woodfibre gas pipeline project, and have issued FortisBC with an environmental certificate.

The pipeline is an expansion of FortisBC’s existing Vancouver Island natural gas transportation system, which provides gas for the proposed Woodfibre LNG liquefaction and export project. The expansion will include the construction of approximately 47 km of pipeline stretching between the Woodfibre LNG site and Coquitlam, British Columbia (B.C.), Canada.

Squamish Nation commenced its independent environmental review of the project over two years ago. As a part of the agreement, Squamish Nation approved the use of Mount Mulligan for the gas compression station.

Its decision to approve the project follows the Squamish National Council’s approval of the environmental assessment agreement and environmental certificate for the Woodfibre LNG project on 14 October 2015.
