Michael de Jong, the Finance Minister for British Columbia (B.C.), Canada, has set off to India and Malaysia in order to advance new bilateral trade and investment opportunities.

De Jong will meet the Indian Minister of State for Finance, Jayant Sinha, as well as representatives from India’s state bank, Securities and Exchange Commission, and the India Infrastructure Finance Corp. De Jong will discuss the issuance of a masala bond in the Indian Rupee bond market.

This follows de Jong’s trip in December 2015, when he met with numerous government and industry officials in Mumbai and New Dehli to demonstrate how B.C.’s success in the Chinese domestic and offshore bond markets can be recreated in India.

De Jong will then travel to Kuala Lumpur in order to discuss economic relations with Malaysia. In particular, he will meet representatives from the Malaysian nationally owned energy company, Petronas, to hold discussions on the progress made regarding the LNG facility near Prince Rupert, Canada, as well the next steps to be taken.

De Jong will also attend the Offshore Technology Conference, where he will focus on the economic strength, investment outlook and partnership with Petronas in B.C.
